For those keeping track, it has been a whole two weeks since President Biden addressed the “situation” at the Southern Border. In his long-overdue speech, Biden decided the best course of action was to do nothing at all, joke about the crisis, and pass the problem off to the VP, Kamala Harris. Telling America that everything was normal, Biden and Harris ended the interview, hoping that the country would take their word for it. Now, that more than enough time has passed, let’s check in on Harris and her efforts to fix the border.

Being the so-called voice of Biden, a curious reporter decided to ask Harris when she was planning on visiting the border. While a great opportunity to address the ongoing crisis and the countless children who are being subjected to horrid conditions, Harris opted to skip the theatrics and simply laugh off the question. She did catch herself and try to backpedal in true Democratic fashion, but the damage was already done.

Instead of doing the job Biden gave her, Harris has been rather busy with traveling to Connecticut and Chicago before making her way back to her home state of California just before the Easter weekend. On top of that, Harris has been hounded with President lunches, COVID-19 response, swearing-in ceremonies, and the strange “listening sessions” with small business owners and faith leaders. It’s safe to say that Harris has been doing everything but focusing on the border.

Not wanting to be completely biased, this week Harris did have a phone conversation with Guatemalan President Alejando Giammattei and Mexico’s Andrés Manuel López Obrador about the ongoing crisis and the root cause of the problem. But according to the White House, the Southern Border was one of the last issues they talked about.

“They agreed to continue to work together to address the root causes of migration from the Northern Triangle countries of El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras – including poverty, violence, and lack of economic opportunity. They also discussed deepening the U.S.-Mexico relationship to target human smuggling and human trafficking.”

So not only did President Biden decide not to be part of the phone call again but come to find out – Harris appears to be more concerned about nurturing a relationship with Mexico than protecting the nation’s border.
