Democratic strongholds around America continue to struggle with COVID-19, stagnant economies, and unemployment surges as their leadership crumbles under immense pressure. While Republican-led states like Florida and Texas are thriving, certain places like Chicago have witnessed great hardships due to weak leadership found in people like Mayor Lori Lightfoot. This Democrat All-Star has not only made it a point to give interviews to only people of color, but now she apparently believes that “racism” is a public health emergency.

On Thursday, Mayor Lightfoot, joined by the Chicago Department of Public Health, declared that systematic racism was somehow a leading factor in life expectancy across the city. She went on to claim that due to “racism” there is a 9.2-year life gap between Blacks and non-Blacks.

“At almost every single point in our city’s history, racism has taken a devastating toll on the health and well-being of our residents of color – especially those who are Black. Without formally acknowledging this detrimental impact, we will never be able to move forward as a city and fully provide our communities with the resources they need to live happy and healthy lives.”

Lightfoot continued to describe her plan which is to focus on historical policies like redlining, Jim Crow restrictions, and “other forms of financial and housing segregation and discrimination.” To the mayor, she believes that racism is to blame for the shorter life span in Black Americans, but data released earlier in the week, which Lightfoot referenced, tells a drastically different story.

The report, released by the city health department, found five contributors to the difference in life expectancy. They are chronic disease, homicide, opioid overdose, infant mortality, and normal health concerns. These can range from the flu all the way to COVID-19. But what wasn’t mentioned was racism.

Trying to prove that racism still exists in America, Lightfoot also said she would be diverting $10 million from the coronavirus relief funds to create six Healthy Chicago Equity Zones that will cover the entire city. But other than a catchy name, neither the mayor nor the health officials with her mentioned how the zones would work and what exactly they would do.

So for now, Lightfoot believes $10 million is a small price to pay to end racism. The only problem, racism is the narrative her own political party created.
