Since the election, the Democrats preached an America of unity and love for each other, but a quick look around and the country feels divided as ever. In just the few months they have been in power, Democrats have pushed dangerous narratives like “Critical Race Theory” and “reparations” that experts have even opposed. Still, these attacks from the left have done nothing but strip away the freedoms all Americans hold dear. And they’re not done yet as Democrat strongholds like Chicago have started canceling July 4th celebrations while still holding parades for both Juneteenth and Gay Pride. 

Located just outside of Chicago, Evanston, Illinois has become somewhat of a test site for the Democrats. Not only have they held public events for Gay Pride and Juneteenth but they also approved a reparations program early this year. Yet with Independence Day quickly approaching, the city believes a celebration could be dangerous. And when pressed as to why they are canceling America’s Independence, the liberals cited the overdramatic COVID-19 pandemic.

Releasing a statement, city officials tried their best to convince people this was in their best interest. Although on June 26, there is a Gay Pride parade with live music and food vendors. Still, the statement reads, “Based on a concern for public health due to the unpredictability of the pandemic’s impact, vaccination rates, and in cooperation with our local authorities, the Trustees of the Evanston Fourth of July Association voted to cancel the Fun Run, Parade, Palatine Concert Band performance and Lakefront Fireworks show on July 4, 2021.”

The letter didn’t stop there as officials tried to offer an alternative that revolved around the city replaying a “virtual” July 4th celebration from 2020. That’s right, the city doesn’t want to put on a new show or virtual event, yet they find it totally acceptable to replay an event from last year. But again, if COVID-19 was such a danger to the public, why are they going out of their way to celebrate the end of slavery, Gay Pride, and not the day that America gained its own freedom?

While absurd, it should be noted that Chicago’s Mayor Lori Lightfoot, another Democrat, has been known for being racist herself. Just a few weeks ago, Lightfoot denied interviews to white journalists and then dared to claim she was the furthest thing from being racist.
