While the Democrats were perfectly fine with stealing the 2020 election from the American people, Republicans have been hard at work making sure your vote counts. Several states have already passed stricter voting laws that will hopefully make election fraud harder to achieve. Still, the Democrats have constantly attacked the Republicans for their efforts, claiming they want to silence people of color. While absurd, Texas Democrats recently staged a walkout, halting the state from passing election reform. Not taking the matter lightly, Governor Greg Abbott decided to hit the Democrats where it hurts – their wallets.

On Friday, after the Democrats walked out, Governor Abbott vetoed the state legislature’s funding, which ultimately pays their salaries. Releasing a statement, Abbott said, “Texans don’t run from a legislative fight, and they don’t walk away from unfinished business. Funding should not be provided for those who quit their job early, leaving their state with unfinished business and exposing taxpayers to higher costs for an additional legislative session. I therefore object to and disapprove of these appropriations.”

Although unprecedented, Abbott’s decision to veto Article 10 was not a rash move as he threatened Democrats a month ago after they staged yet another walkout. Informing them that he would cut their funding for “abandoning their responsibilities”, Abbott hoped to work alongside the Democrats, saying “During the special session, we will continue to advance policies that put the people of Texas first. This session we passed legislation to: secure our border, support our police, expand 2A rights, defend religious liberty, protect life. It was one of the most conservative sessions our state has ever seen. But, there’s more we must do to ensure a brighter future for Texas. Election integrity & bail reform were must-pass emergency items. I expect legislators to work out their differences before special session.”

With the Democrat’s funding cut, they will have to find a way to work with Republicans as the problems the state is facing affect both sides. Thanks to President Biden and his VP, Kamala Harris, the Southern Border has been completely overrun with immigrants, causing a 21-year record high. And even with numbers, state Democrats still refuse to work with Republicans to address the issues. So, thanks to Abbott, lawmakers will have to choose between doing their job or finding a job.
