For several months, schools around the country have been debating the highly controversial Critical Race Theory that suggests America was built on racism and is racist. Not wanting to instill the idea that people are even born racists, several states have fought to ban CRT from being taught. With Idaho becoming the first state to ban CRT, Tennessee, Utah, Florida, and Texas followed suit. But while the governors might have shot down the theory, the nation’s largest teacher union pledged to teach CRT in all 50 states.

Holding its annual convention over the July 4th weekend, the National Education Association (NEA) announced they would be teaching CRT in over 14,000 districts. And that’s not all as NEA will also work with groups like Black Lives Matter at Schools to make October 14, which is George Floyd’s birthday, “a national day of action to teach lessons about structural racism and oppression.”

For those who might fight against critical race theory, NEA vows to work on opposition research, claiming, “NEA will research the organizations attacking educators doing anti-racist work and/or use the research already done and put together a list of resources and recommendations for state affiliates, locals, and individual educators to utilize when they are attacked.”

While the NEA’s new agenda goes directly against government orders, it is interesting that the organization would acknowledge CRT when the Democrats claimed it was manufactured by former President Donald Trump. Former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe told Meet the Press CRT was “another right-wing conspiracy theory,” and it was“totally made up by Donald Trump.”

As for the NEA, their new resolution would help spread CRT and even the 1619 Project into all schools. It would also force NEA President Becky Pringle to make statements “that support racial honesty in education including but not limited to critical race theory.”

Although the NEA might pass the resolution to teach CRT and even claim it will only cost a little over $100,000, they continue to forget who funds their schools. And it should be mentioned again that numerous states have already banned CRT in their schools. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis believes the NEA should worry more about preparing students for the future. He recently said, “The sad reality is that only two in five Americans can correctly name the three branches of government, and more than a third of Americans cannot name any of the rights guaranteed by the First Amendment. It is abundantly clear that we need to do a much better job of educating our students in civics to prepare them for the rest of their lives.”
