As if trying to hold on to the fading spotlight, Dr. Anthony Fauci recently made comments about the upcoming holidays and COVID-19. At first, the doctors expressed doubt that people would be able to gather for Christmas. After an intense backlash, Fauci reversed his stance and announced he would be spending the holidays with his family. While his comments are cause for concern, last week, Fauci was speaking at McGill University when he literally said that people should “give up” their freedoms “for the greater good of society”.

While discussing the importance of the COVID-19 vaccine, Dr. Fauci was asked how he would approach the idea of “the value of individual freedom within the context of this global pandemic.” Although the event was held in Montreal, Fauci was able to Livestream into the event.

As if he had already been briefed on his answers, Fauci went into a monologue, bashing Fox News and conservatives before setting his aim on the individual. “I think what people have to appreciate, that indeed you do have personal liberties for yourself and you should be in control of that. But you are a member of society, and as a member of society, reaping all of the benefits of being a member of society, you have a responsibility to society.”

Setting himself up, the doctor then suggested taking away freedom. “I think each of us, particularly in the context of a pandemic that’s killing millions of people, you have got to look at it and say, ‘There comes a time when you do have to give up what you consider your individual right of making your own decision for the greater good of society.'”

Acting as if his words were law, he added, “There is no doubt that that’s the case.”

Again, this is one of the recent controversial statements Facui has made in the last month. On Sunday, talking to CBS News about children being vaccinated, he said, “My own children could not have gone to school if they had not gotten vaccinated with the measles, mumps and rubella. So when we see pushback on that, it’s as if this never happened before. It’s actually ongoing with other vaccines. So, let’s do it with a virus that’s very, very serious.”
