Although the day was set aside to honor the civil rights icon, Martin Luther King Jr., President Joe Biden used the opportunity to push voter reform. He stated, “In his time, through his courage, his conviction and his commitment, Dr. King held a mirror up to America and forced us to answer the question: Where do we stand? Whose side are we on? We’re in another moment right now where the mirror is being held up to America. The question is being asked again: Where do we stand? Whose side are we on? Will we stand against voter suppression — yes or no? Will we stand against election subversion — yes or no? We stand up for an America where everyone is guaranteed the full protections and the full promise of this nation — yes or no?”

What is more interesting than pushing his agendas is the fact that just years ago, President Biden claimed that the assassination of MLK didn’t have as much impact on society as the untimely death of George Floyd. In the video below, President Biden stated, “even Dr. King’s assassination did not have the worldwide impact that George Floyd’s death did.”

While President Biden has been known to forget the past, he would continue his remarks at the National Action Network’s annual breakfast honoring King. Biden would surprisingly compare the voting agenda not passing to the supposed attack on democracy that took place at Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021. “On this federal holiday that honors him, it’s not just enough to praise him. We must commit to his unfinished work to deliver jobs and justice, to protect the sacred right to vote. The attack on our democracy is real, from the January 6th insurrection to the onslaught of Republicans’ anti-voting laws in a number of states.”

President Bide would add, “It’s no longer about who doesn’t get to vote. It’s about whether your vote counts at all. It’s about two insidious things, voter suppression and election subversion.”

Political candidate Joe Kent would share the video of Biden from 2020 making the comparison to MLK and Floyd with the caption: “Dems like Biden feared MLK b/c he was leading a peaceful movement to make America live up to our founding ethos. For the left, Floyd’s death presented the opportunity to burn cities, at the expense of minority communities, to further their agenda. It’s all about power politics.”
