There is no hiding the fact that the 2022 midterm elections are predicted to sway heavily for the GOP. With the dismal performance from the Biden administration mixed with the government overreach surrounding COVID-19, Americans are apparently seeking a change as Republicans are slated to take back control of D.C. And trying to save their political careers ahead of the elections, some Democrats like Beto O’Rourke are changing their stance on key issues pertaining to gun control.

Back in September of 2019, during the Democratic primary, O’Rourke famously stated, “Hell yes, I’m going to take your AR-15, your AK-47.” Although a powerful statement, the Democrat wouldn’t last long as he eventually dropped out and supported Joe Biden as President. Currently running for Governor in Texas, O’Rourke stood by his statement when speaking with CNN. He said, “I still hold this view. Look, we are a state that has a long, proud tradition of responsible gun ownership. And most of us here in Texas do not want to see our friends, our family members, our neighbors shot up with these weapons of war. So yes, I still hold this view.”

But what is interesting is how on Tuesday, the Democrat appeared to completely change his stance when speaking in Tyler, Texas. He admitted, “I’m not interested in taking anything from anyone. What I want to make sure that we do is defend the Second Amendment. I want to make sure that we protect our fellow Texans far better than we’re doing right now. And that we listen to law enforcement, which Greg Abbott refused to do. He turned his back on them when he signed that permitless carry bill that endangers the lives of law enforcement in a state that’s seen more cops and sheriff’s deputies gunned down than in any other.”

It should be noted that O’Rourke wanting to beat current Governor Greg Abbott would be the first time a Democrat has won in the state since 1995.
