It was news outlets like CNN that helped nourish the movement that was cancel culture. Every piece of American history that didn’t align with their approved narrative was subject to being erased. While it started with confederate statues and flags, it quickly spiraled to any person that didn’t align themselves with the liberal narrative. Comedians like Dave Chappelle and Joe Rogan have both been targets of cancel culture as they speak out on the absurdity of the movement. And although CNN once supported the culture, it appears they are now turning away as “The View” co-host, Whoopi Goldberg, was suspended for claiming the Holocaust wasn’t about race.

Facing a two-week suspension, CNN’s own Don Lemon decided to take up for Goldberg and call for an end of the angry mob they helped create. The host said, “In this environment, we have to be allies to each other. Sometimes your allies say stupid things. Sometimes they say dumb things. But guess what? They’re your allies. They’re at least on your side and they’re trying to learn. We have to stop trying to cancel people and shutting down our allies.”

Lemon transitioned his speech to help defend Goldberg, adding, “Whoopi is an ally to the Jewish community. She is. She said something that she shouldn’t have said. OK, fine. But… don’t put her in a corner and marginalize her. Use her to the best of your ability to get the conversation and your points across about what’s wrong about that kind of thinking because she’s not the only one who thinks it.”

While Lemon might be calling for forgiveness, he was rather silent when Disney decided to fire actress Gina Carano for making a Holocaust comparison herself. Ian Miles Cheong wrote on Twitter, “Gina Carano was fired by Disney, which owns ABC over an Instagram post comparing inhumane restrictions and dehumanization to the Nazis’ treatment of Jews. Whoopi Goldberg got a two week vacation from ABC for minimizing the Holocaust as ‘y’all whites against whites.’”

Even Donald Trump Jr. added to the conversation, writing, “Why is it that Rosanne [Barr] (a Jewish woman) gets canceled for off color remarks but Whoopi’s gets a total pass for antisemitism and downplaying the Holocaust? I can’t help but notice that only people on the right face consequences for their mistakes.”
