Once promoting the “Defund the Police” movements around the country, support for the Democrats started to falter as many Americans like more law enforcement in their communities. Wanting to win the 2020 election, the Democrats appeared to abandon the cause once backed by Black Lives Matter, but that didn’t mean they were done trying to push the agenda. Thanks to COVID-19, the Biden administration has been able to enforce outlandish government overreach all in the name of public safety. And as of next month, it seems both the defund the police movement and COVID-19 will collide in New York.

Starting February 11, officers who have not received the COVID-19 drug and are with the New York Police Department will be terminated. While former Mayor Bill de Blasio issued his own COVID-19 mandate back in November that led to only 34 officers being placed on unpaid leave for not getting the jab, the new regulation came in a memo from the president of the Sergeants Benevolent Association, Vincent Vallelong.

In the memo, Vallelong wrote, “Every avenue has been exhausted by Law Enforcement and others across the country in the courts, we have lost at every turn. With this in mind, I ask you to take the proper steps to ensure that whatever decision you make is best for you and your families.”

While threatening termination, the memo did add that it would not apply to officers seeking a religious or medical exemption. Still, those officers are required to perform weekly testing and wear masks on the job.

On top of forcing the jab on the NYPD, the new Mayor, Eric Adams, has toyed with the idea of making the COVID-19 drug a requirement for all municipal employees.  “That’s our next move and decision. If we feel we have to get to the place of making that mandatory, we’re going to do that, but we’re encouraging them to do it now.”
