With the push to defund police departments around America being promoted by the Black Lives Matter movement and the Democrats, police officers have been vilified and even targeted as being the problem for the crime in society. Although completely outlandish, officers continue to struggle with the rise in crime while having to rely on each other for support due to the onslaught of criticism from the mainstream media. And with crime on the rise, a 22-year-old New York Police Department officer, Jason Rivera, was shot and killed while responding to a domestic incident in Harlem. While Rivera’s family mourns their loss, thousands of police officers crowded the streets of New York to pay their respects. And sadly, actress Susan Sarandon decided to compare the event to fascism in an anti-cop tweet.

No matter what the media or D.C. might think, the thousands of officers who gathered in Manhattan did it for the purpose to honor a brother who was lost in the line of duty. But instead of seeing the event as a moment of solidarity, some like podcaster Danny Haiphong decided to disgrace the memorial by suggesting, “I’m gonna tell my kids this is what fascism looks like.”

Finding a connection with the post, Sarandon thought it was a great idea to grab the image and add her own words to it, reading, “So, if all these cops weren’t needed for CRIME that day, doesn’t that mean they aren’t needed ANY day?”

Susan Sarandon tweet compared NYPD funeral to fascism

While Sarandon might be an advocate for BLM, it appears no one was siding with her idea that bashing police trying to pay their respects was a good move. Joe Lockhart tweeted, “Dear Republicans — Susan Sarandon is not ours.  She hasn’t voted for a Democrat in a long time.  Maybe she’s one of those false flag operations you guys are whispering about all the time.”

The National Fraternal Order of Police added, “Of all the days for @SusanSarandon to share her true feelings towards police, she picks the day we bury our fallen brother to make such inflammatory & brainless comments. When you spend more time hating on cops than you do your own career, it’s no wonder why you’re a D-list actor.”
