After over a year of disasters that included the Southern Border, COVID-19, the withdrawal in Afghanistan, and gas prices skyrocketing, it appears both the Democrats and Biden administration are feeling the pressure as the 2022 midterm elections are quickly approaching. Just a few months ago at the DNC holiday celebration, Joe Biden declared, “I want to tell my Republican friends: Get ready, pal. You’re going in for a problem.” But now that his approval rating is hovering around 40%, the Democrats are struggling to make up ground before the midterm election in November. And while the White House might be confident, MSNBC host Chuck Todd had an entirely different take.

In the video, which can be watched below, Todd gave an update on the 2022 midterm elections and just how hard it was going to be for the Democrats to keep control of D.C. He said, “Let’s look at the presidential job approval rating. All right, when Bill Clinton, George W. Bush had midterms that went their way, their job approval rating was right around 50 or north of it. Alright, when you start dipping below 45, you’ve got a problem and you’re gonna have midterms that are in the bad to shellacking ratio. President Biden’s at 40. George W. Bush was at 39% in 2006. We know how that turned out. So you see, that’s also in shellacking territory, then let’s look at the generic ballot. What you’re going to see here is a narrowly for the Republicans 42 to 44. You’re going to say oh, that’s competitive. No, no, no…”

Todd added, “The bottom line is generic ballot – If the Democrats are losing it means they’re going to get walloped. Last time in 2010, Republicans had a two-point advantage that translated to 63 seats. So in summary, right now, you’ve got three, essentially three numbers here that all point into dangerous territory for the Democrats in the incumbent party, presidential job rating at 40%. Wrong track over 70% and the Republicans leading in the generic ballot. Not a good time.”

The midterm projections from MSNBC came as CNN’s own Jill Filipovic ripped into President Biden for his new budget proposal. She wrote, “President Joe Biden’s proposed budget makes one thing clear: Despite progressive hopes that the President might be a secret Franklin Delano Roosevelt capable of ushering in an ambitious domestic agenda, Biden is exactly the timid moderate he always appeared to be. He seems to be hoping that an agenda of the same old tacking-right policies will benefit vulnerable Democrats in the midterms. Instead, he may simply be depressing Democratic enthusiasm and helping to consign the party to a red wave.”
