Now that President Joe Biden has given his first State of the Union Address, Americans are reflecting on his words and the promises of a brighter future. At the same time, media outlets like CNN have conducted instant polling surrounding Biden’s speech and how the general public is feeling about the administration moving forward. With the first year of Biden’s presidency being full of disasters like the Southern border crisis, the withdrawal in Afghanistan, COVID-19, and the economy, it appears that the majority of viewers weren’t impressed as the President received the worst score in nearly 15 years.

According to CNN, out of those who watched the speech and were polled, only 41% said they felt “very positive” about what Biden had to say about the direction of America. What makes that percentage even worse is the fact that CNN noted most viewers of the State of the Union Address are usually supporters of the sitting President. That means, of the people asked about Biden’s speech, a large percentage of them were not only voters but supporters of Biden. Still, when polled, Biden sank lower than both President Donald Trump and President Barack Obama.

Going back to 2010, Obama addressed the nation for the time and received a positive rating of 48%. Jump to 2018, when Trump gave his first State of the Union Address, the controversial figure also garnered a rating of 48%.

The poll continued to spell doom for the Biden administration as it found 54% of Americans currently disapprove of the President’s performance over the last year. Biden did see a slight increase as 67% of viewers believed Biden’s proposals could lead America in the right direction.

While tackling a mountain of issues during his speech, Biden stunned supporters when he moved away from the “Defund the Police” movement that was once heavily supported by the Democrats. Instead, Biden harped on the importance of funding the police with “resources and training they need to protect their communities.”
