Wednesday morning, after an annoying introduction by Nancy Pelosi who acted as if she was leading a kindergarten class in show and tell, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke to the US Congress by video transmission from Kyiv. He spoke for just under 30 minutes.

Bearded and attired in his now trademark green t-shirt, Zelenskyy implored Congress and Biden for a No-Fly Zone, antiaircraft weapons, and a total ban on the importation of Russian goods.

He also showed a heart-wrenching video that contrasted Ukraine at peace with the horrors of this war. The video ended with another plea for a No-Fly Zone. Zelenskyy also indirectly asked for the MIG deal to be approved and thanked the US and Biden for their support to this point.

Switching to English at the end of the address, Zelenskyy asked for American global leadership and also proposed a concept he labeled “U24”, an alliance of free nations that could rush aid to a country that is the victim of aggression within 24 hours. He predicated that by saying current institutions are not capable of keeping the peace. His pleas will be admiringly noted. But a No Fly Zone is not in the cards.
