Former President Donald Trump did more than beat Hillary Clinton in stunning fashion. Before he even walked into the White House, the Republican spent a great deal of time criticizing the mainstream media. Due to Trump’s background in television, he had the opportunity to see how television companies operate. Once loved by the media, Trump found himself quickly the villain of their agenda. But again, Trump never backed down as he exposed the media for not focusing on the facts but only caring about the narrative. While the media continues to defend its supposed integrity, Axios recently revealed that David Brock is tied to over 50 media outlets designed to look like local news but are nothing more than machines pumping out puff pieces on Democrats.

Before David Brock founded the nonprofit Media Matters For America, he supported the Republicans by reporting on conservative news. But he pivoted after his new business, and according to Axios reporters Lachlan Markay and Thomas Wheatley, Media Matters For America has a “patina of independent local news content designed to put a sheen of original reporting on partisan messaging.”

Looking at the report, Media Matters For America appeared to only focus on key states like Georgia, Colorado, Michigan, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Arizona. Some of their sites operated under names like Tri-City Record, Macomb Digest, and Milwaukee Metro Times. Axios found that each site offered a selection of local news for readers. It carried articles on sports and crime in the area, but when it came to the political stage, the sites slanted heavily toward the Democrats. And when it comes to Republicans, the pieces carry a great deal of criticism.

Going deeper than just the content being presented, the sites apparently are all owned by a company in Orlando called Local Report Inc. It was formed last year and has nurtured an amazing relationship with The American Independent. The Local Report sites appeared to be operated by a few writers out of The American Independent, which was founded by none other than David Brock.

The American Independent’s executive editor, Jessica McCreight, defended the sites, declaring, “It’s been widely reported that where local news outlets shut down, dis- and misinformation grows. To combat this challenge, the American Independent has expanded to bring readers local, fact-based news and information on topics and issues that impact their communities.”

Again, when searching through the sites, a reader will notice glowing articles on Democrats like Stacey Abrams and Jocelyn Benson, the Secretary of State for Michigan. But on the other side of the aisle, Republican Ted Budd received criticism and accusations. David Brock didn’t seem to mind the report by Axios as he tweeted, “The media squealing about bias lol.”
