NBC late-night host Seth Meyers said he would be concerned for his mental health if his show, Late Night with Seth Meyers, were canceled. Meyers made the comments during a recent appearance on The Armchair Expert podcast with Dax Shepard, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.

The remarks come shortly after CBS ended The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, highlighting uncertainty across the late-night television landscape.

During the interview, Meyers said he’s aware the decision to keep his show on the air is not in his control and acknowledged that changes in viewer habits could affect the longevity of late-night programming as a whole.

“I would worry about myself, like, mental health-wise,” Meyers said when asked what he would do if NBC canceled Late Night.

“Certainly, financially, I could have been fine just doing the show for the last 11 years. But then it was like, ‘Oh, you know what? I feel like there’s something to trying to build a stand-up career and trying to do other things.’”

Meyers said he has been attempting to expand his comedy reach through stand-up and by diversifying his skill set. Despite his experience in television, he indicated that a sudden cancellation would leave him concerned about the mental and emotional impact.

He continued, “I feel like I shifted from fearing that I wouldn’t be good enough, and now my fear is weirdly more outside of my control, which is … just at some point, the ecosystem might not support [late night].”

Meyers has been the host of the Late Night show since 2014 and is one of several hosts known for regular political commentary, particularly criticizing President Donald Trump throughout his administration.

He had an emotional reaction on air to Trump’s 2016 election win, which drew attention and criticism at the time.

With shifting viewer preferences, traditional late-night shows have seen declining ratings. CBS recently canceled Stephen Colbert’s program, and ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! has also seen decreasing viewership.

Meanwhile, Fox News’ Gutfeld! has emerged as the only late-night program with consistent growth, offering a format distinct from its network counterparts.

NBC has not announced any programming changes related to Late Night with Seth Meyers.
