While the timing and proximity of the stabbing and the shooting raised concerns, investigators said the two incidents are believed to be unrelated.

Police confirmed a person of interest is in custody in connection with the shooting of the teenage girl. Sources told reporters that the individual being held has more than 20 prior arrests. However, charges in the case have not yet been filed.
No arrests have been made in the stabbing, and the investigation remains ongoing. Law enforcement is still working to determine the motive and identify suspects in both cases.

Authorities said the violence highlights the challenges officers face in policing large gatherings and crowded areas where incidents can unfold quickly. The NYPD has not yet released the identities of the victims or the suspect currently in custody.
The Mexican Day Parade, an annual cultural celebration, had ended earlier in the day along Madison Avenue, drawing thousands of participants and spectators.
Police said the violence broke out in the aftermath of the festivities but stressed there is no indication the incidents were connected to the parade itself.
Both investigations remain active, and officials urged anyone with information to contact the NYPD.
