Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) announced Thursday that he intends to pursue impeachment proceedings against Judge James Boasberg, citing the judge’s approval of Department of Justice surveillance targeting Republican lawmakers. Donalds made the statement during an appearance on the Larry Kudlow Show on the FOX Business Network.

The Gateway Pundit reported that the Florida congressman, who is currently leading polls in the upcoming Florida gubernatorial race, accused Boasberg of authorizing what he described as an unlawful and politically motivated spying operation carried out under the direction of Special Counsel Jack Smith and Attorney General Merrick Garland.

“Everybody should know,” Donalds told Kudlow.

“Number one, I think it was Judge Boasberg who signed off on all this stuff. He needs to lose his seat as a judge. That needs to go.”

Donalds added that Congress should call in those responsible for testimony and that the Justice Department must pursue any related criminal violations.

“If there were criminal violations, they have to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. This is worse than Watergate.”

The comments came days after reports surfaced revealing that the Biden Justice Department obtained private phone records of several Republican U.S. Senators without their knowledge.

According to the findings, the DOJ also barred AT&T from alerting the lawmakers that their communications data had been accessed. Judge Boasberg reportedly signed off on the authorization.

Donalds said the actions represented a dangerous abuse of power that eclipsed the Watergate scandal.

“As much as everybody wants to talk about Watergate and everything around Richard Nixon, this is significantly worse because while they were using the judicial system to go after their political rival, they were also in the background protecting Joe Biden from the American people,” he said, referencing what he called the “autopen investigation” and the administration’s alleged pressure on media and technology companies to suppress speech.

“This is the most corrupt presidential administration, the Biden administration, in the history of our country. Heads need to roll.”

Judge Boasberg, who serves as the chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, has faced growing scrutiny in recent months. In September, Boasberg came under criticism after releasing a woman who had allegedly threatened to kill President Donald Trump.

Two months earlier, in July, Attorney General Pam Bondi filed a formal complaint against Boasberg over public remarks in which he admitted bias against the President.

Donalds’ call for impeachment marks one of the most direct challenges yet from a member of Congress to a sitting federal judge over alleged partisan conduct linked to the Justice Department’s activities.
