Several high-profile Democrats, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and former President Bill Clinton, publicly praised President Donald Trump for brokering the Israel-Hamas ceasefire that led to the release of the remaining living hostages from Gaza, as reported by Fox News.

Hamas freed all 20 remaining hostages on Monday following weeks of negotiations involving the Trump administration, Qatar, and other regional intermediaries. The release marks a major milestone in the administration’s 20-point plan to end hostilities in the region.

Schumer, along with Rockland County Executive Ed Day, was on hand to talk about mosquito control and the danger of Eastern Equine Encephalitis, the potentially fatal virus that humans can contract through the bite of an infected mosquito.

In a statement, Schumer said:

“Today is a wonderful day. Finally, finally, finally, the last living hostages brutally held by Hamas are home, an immense and overwhelming sigh of relief. I commend the enormous advocacy of the tireless hostage families, President Trump, his administration, and all who helped make this moment happen.”

Former President Bill Clinton echoed Schumer’s praise, crediting Trump’s diplomatic team and international partners.

“President Trump and his administration, Qatar, and other regional actors deserve great credit for keeping everyone engaged until the agreement was reached.”

President Trump visited Israel on Monday, where he addressed the Knesset and met with families of the freed hostages. During his flight home aboard Air Force One, a reporter asked for his reaction to Clinton’s comments.

“I’ve always liked Bill Clinton. I’ve always gotten along with him,” Trump said. “I thought it was very nice, actually. And what is he doing? He’s telling the truth.”

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also weighed in, telling CBS News’ Norah O’Donnell on Friday:

“I really commend President Trump and his administration, as well as Arab leaders in the region for making the commitment to the 20-point plan and seeing a path forward for what’s often called the day after.”

The 20-point plan, published by the Trump administration in late September, outlines a framework for stabilizing Gaza, rebuilding key infrastructure, and ensuring the long-term security of Israel through regional cooperation.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris, who ran against Trump in the 2024 election, also credited the administration during an interview on MSNBC that aired Sunday.

“I commend the people who have been a part of this process. I commend the Qataris, the Egyptians, and the president.”

The bipartisan praise follows weeks of tense negotiations and represents one of the rare moments of unity in Washington over Middle East policy.

Officials from both parties have called the ceasefire and the release of hostages a “turning point” for regional peace efforts and a demonstration of effective American diplomacy under President Trump’s leadership.
