Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez commented Thursday on the upcoming meeting between President Donald Trump and New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, saying the incoming mayor is prepared to meet with anyone as he gets ready to take office in January, as reported by Fox News.
Speaking to reporters, Ocasio-Cortez said Mamdani has made clear he intends to sit down with a wide range of individuals ahead of his inauguration.

Asked what she expected from the meeting between Trump and Mamdani, Ocasio-Cortez responded, “We’ll see.” She said Mamdani is focused on preparing for his new role as the city’s mayor.

“Obviously, the mayor-elect is going to be preparing for his inauguration,” she said. She added that Mamdani “has indicated that he’s willing to sit down with anybody and everybody,” repeating that “we’ll see” how the meeting unfolds.
Reporters also asked Ocasio-Cortez whether there were particular policy issues she believed Mamdani should raise during the meeting at the White House. She said she intends to let the mayor-elect determine the agenda.
“I think we let Zohran lead. He’s been elected to lead New York City. I trust him as the mayor-elect, he’ll do what he thinks is best for the city of New York,” she said. “We’ll see how it goes.”

President Trump announced the meeting on Wednesday on Truth Social.
In the post, he wrote, “Communist Mayor of New York City, Zohran ‘Kwame’ Mamdani, has asked for a meeting. We have agreed that this meeting will take place at the Oval Office on Friday, November 21.” Trump added that there would be “further details to follow.”
The meeting at the White House will be the first between Trump and Mamdani since Mamdani won the New York City mayoral race earlier in the month.
Mamdani, who currently serves as a state assemblyman representing Queens, is preparing to assume office at the start of the new year.
The encounter comes as Mamdani transitions from his legislative role into the position of mayor and prepares for his administration to begin.

His schedule ahead of the inauguration includes a series of briefings and meetings, including Friday’s meeting with the president, which will take place in the Oval Office.
While Ocasio-Cortez did not offer specific expectations for the discussion, she emphasized that Mamdani will determine how he approaches the conversation with Trump as he prepares to lead the nation’s largest city.
The meeting remains one of the first public interactions between the president and the incoming mayor since the election.
Trump’s announcement confirmed the timing of the meeting and noted that additional information would be released following their discussion.
