By the time responders reached the home, the fire had already caused extensive damage.

Chief David Toomey of the Lucia Riverbend Fire Department told WCNC-TV that between 40 and 45 percent of the house was burning when firefighters arrived.

Multiple agencies were required to respond due to the severity of the fire and local infrastructure challenges.

Nearly a dozen different fire departments assisted in the response because the town of Stanley does not have fire hydrants, according to WSOC-TV.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and officials have not released additional details regarding the origin of the blaze or whether an investigation is ongoing.

Authorities have also not indicated whether foul play is suspected.

Dennis and Mary Lou Hamlin had lived in the Stanley home for years. The community is located in Gaston County, west of Charlotte, and relies on mutual aid from surrounding departments for large-scale fire responses.

Denny Hamlin, the couple’s son, is one of the most accomplished drivers in NASCAR history. He is tied for 10th on the NASCAR Cup Series all-time wins list with 60 career victories and has won the Daytona 500 three times.

In addition to his driving career, Hamlin is a co-owner of the 23XI Racing NASCAR team, which he operates alongside NBA legend Michael Jordan.

As of Sunday night, no additional statements had been released by the Hamlin family or by NASCAR regarding funeral arrangements or further updates on Mary Lou Hamlin’s condition.

Officials said more information may be released once the investigation into the fire progresses.

The incident marks a tragic loss for the Hamlin family and comes as the NASCAR community continues to follow developments surrounding the fire and the ongoing medical treatment of Denny Hamlin’s mother.
