President Donald Trump announced plans for a nationwide athletic competition called the “Patriot Games,” an event scheduled for next year that will feature top high school athletes from across the country as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations.

Trump revealed the Patriot Games alongside the launch of Freedom 250, an organization created to plan and oversee efforts commemorating the United States’ 250th anniversary.

The initiative will coordinate multiple national events leading up to and during 2026.

According to details shared with the announcement, the Patriot Games will invite two standout high school athletes from each state and territory, selecting one male and one female participant to compete in a series of athletic events.

The competition is expected to take place in the autumn of 2026.

“One of the events that will be featured as part of the festivities will be what Trump called the ‘first-ever Patriot Games, an unprecedented four-day athletic event featuring the greatest high school athletes — one young man and one young woman from each state and territory,’” The Hill reported.

Trump discussed the upcoming competition in a video announcement, describing it as part of a broader set of patriotic celebrations planned under Freedom 250.

He said the events are intended to mark a historic milestone while bringing Americans together.

“Already, we’ve had big celebrations to commemorate the 250th birthdays of the Army, the Navy and the United States Marines, but there is much, much more to come,” Trump said.

Trump emphasized that the Patriot Games will be a multi-day event focused on athletic competition among students representing every part of the country.

The president reiterated that the competition would involve male and female athletes competing separately.

“An unprecedented four-day athletic event featuring the greatest high school athletes, one young man and one young woman from each state and territory,” Trump said.

He also addressed eligibility and participation standards for the event, making clear statements about how the competition will be structured.

“But I promise there will be no men playing in women’s sports,” Trump said.

The Patriot Games are expected to be one of several high-profile events tied to the country’s semiquincentennial. Freedom 250 is overseeing planning for additional national celebrations scheduled throughout 2026.

“Other events planned for 2026 include a ‘Great American State Fair’ that will feature exhibits from all 50 states on the National Mall from June 25-July 10; an Independence Day celebration that will include fireworks and a military flyover; and an Ultimate Fighting Championship event that will take place at the White House on June 14,” The Hill reported.

Trump said the upcoming celebrations are designed to be accessible and enjoyable for Americans across the country.

Trump also told viewers in his video announcement that participants and spectators would have a “good time” at the events planned for the anniversary year.

The Freedom 250 initiative builds on earlier commemorations already held for the U.S. military.

Trump referenced celebrations marking milestone anniversaries for the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps, describing them as precursors to a broader schedule of events planned for 2026.

The Patriot Games concept centers on state and territorial representation, with each jurisdiction sending two athletes to participate.

The event is expected to span four days and include multiple sporting competitions, though specific sports and venues have not yet been detailed publicly.

Trump’s announcement placed the Patriot Games within a larger framework of patriotic programming, combining athletics, cultural displays, military recognition, and national celebrations as part of the anniversary year.

The United States will mark its 250th anniversary in 2026, commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.

The Freedom 250 organization is tasked with coordinating activities that recognize that milestone while highlighting national history, unity, and civic pride.

Trump’s remarks framed the Patriot Games as both a competitive sporting event and a symbolic celebration tied to the country’s founding anniversary.
