A University of Chicago associate professor has been charged with multiple felonies following violent clashes outside a federal immigration facility in Broadview, Illinois, according to law enforcement officials, as reported by the New York Post.
Eman Abdelhadi, who teaches in the Department of Comparative Human Development, was arrested on Friday and charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a government employee — both Class 3 felonies — and two counts of resisting or obstructing a peace officer, classified as Class A misdemeanors, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to Fox News.
Abdelhadi is scheduled to appear in court again on Tuesday.

The charges stem from a series of riots that have taken place over several weeks outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Broadview, where protesters have repeatedly blocked access to law enforcement and vehicles.

Police reports indicate that demonstrators have engaged in violent altercations with officers attempting to maintain order.
Abdelhadi, a self-described socialist, participated in the protests and posted images from the scene to her X account on Friday.
One of the photos showed Illinois state troopers near the facility. In the accompanying caption, she accused officers of “enforcing [President] Trump’s agenda of terrorizing our community with abductions.”

The protests have grown increasingly confrontational, with demonstrators attempting to prevent ICE operations from proceeding.
Law enforcement officials reported that several individuals were detained over the course of multiple demonstrations, citing repeated interference with government duties and acts of aggression toward officers.

Abdelhadi has drawn attention in the past for her outspoken left-wing activism. In July, she delivered a speech at the “Socialism 2025” conference, where she launched an explicit tirade against her own employer.
“F**k the University of Chicago, it’s evil, you know it’s a colonial landlord,” Abdelhadi said during the conference. “Like, why would I put any of my political energy into this space? I kind of had a little bit of disdain for people who spent their time doing that.”

University officials have not issued a public statement in response to the arrest or the ongoing protests.
The demonstrations at the ICE facility have been monitored by both local police and federal authorities due to escalating violence and repeated attempts to obstruct federal enforcement operations.
Court records show that Abdelhadi’s arraignment will address the charges related to the alleged battery against government employees during the Broadview protest.
Officials said investigations remain ongoing regarding additional participants who may have been involved in assaults or property damage during the incidents.
If convicted of the felony charges, Abdelhadi could face a sentence of up to five years in prison for each count. Her public defenders have not responded to media inquiries.
