Former MSNBC host Joy Reid said she would “freak out” if she encountered a biological man in a women’s locker room, describing her own discomfort with the situation during an episode of the Reid This Reid That podcast with journalist Jacque Reid.

The discussion centered on a recent incident at a Gold’s Gym involving a black woman and a “transgender woman.”

Jacque Reid recounted how the woman, identified as Tish Hyman, was “kicked out of the gym” after objecting to a biological male entering the women’s locker room. Jacque Reid said Hyman described the individual as a “grown man with a big penis.”

She said she preferred to change in a private room because she did not want to undress in front of others.

“I would always change in, like, a private room because I’m like, I’m not trying to change in front of people like that,” Joy Reid said.

“I don’t need people to see me naked and then see me in the hallway later. But, then, I would come out of my little private dressing room, and there would be women walking around — I’m talking about women — women walking around with their boobies danglin’, swinging in the breeze, and it’s not even like perky boobies, just boobies drooping to their knees. They kicking their boobies down the street, and they want to walk up and have a conversation with you. And, I’m like, ‘Don’t walk up to me with no clothes on and talk to me. I don’t want to talk to you.’”

Reid said she already found those situations “alarming” and made clear that seeing a biological man in the same space would heighten her reaction.

“I’m alarmed enough when I see a woman with her dangling boobies; if I saw a penis in the ladies’ locker room, I would freak out too. This is nothing against trans-anybody,” she said.

She added that she would likely “go to management” and ask why a naked man was in the women’s locker room.

Reid’s comments follow past statements she has made criticizing Republican positions on transgender policies.

She previously accused Republicans of conducting a “nationwide crusade against transgender people,” a position she labeled “dangerous and evil.”

In December 2024, she compared efforts to prevent minors from receiving gender reassignment surgery to actions reminiscent of “Nazi Germany,” according to reporting from Fox News at the time.
